The Lake Shore Drive Church of Christ Youth and Family Ministry strives to help families grow together in their relationships with God, each other and their church family. Our goal is to be a resource for parents as they try to raise their children to love God and love others. We do this by offering opportunities for our students in Kindergarten – Twelfth grade opportunities for spiritual growth as a group along with their families through events like:
Family Devotionals – during the school year families will host a devotional in their homes or at our annex for families. We’ll share a meal, have a time of worship and a devotional and fellowship together.
Service projects – We participate in a quarterly trash pickup along a two mile stretch of Lake Shore Drive, we do various other service projects for members of Lake Shore including shut-ins and our Senior Saints group. Each year, we host a banquet for our Senior Saints and our teens set up and serve the meal for them.
Mission trips – Each summer students in grades 6-12 have an opportunity to go on a mission trip to serve a group or church in another area. We’ve gone to Cherokee Home for Children in Cherokee, TX and also to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home in Portales, NM.
Youth conferences – We attend youth conferences every year such as MOVE in Oklahoma City, OK, T3 in Lewisville, TX and CYC Challenge Youth Conference in Dallas. These are for students in grades 6-12.
Summer Camps – Lake Shore Drive hosts its own junior camp session for students in 2nd-7th grades every summer at the Heart of Texas Bible Camp in Brady, TX. We also attend a senior camp session for students in 8th-12th grade in Brady. Our girls in grades 8-12 attend OWLS Camp in Lewisville during the summer. Some of our young men attend the Titus Camp in Keller, TX. Since 2014, a group has gone to Camp Wyldewood in Searcy, AR.
Lads to Leaders – Throughout the year, our students are mentored and encouraged to develop leadership skills through involvement in the Lads to Leaders program. This culminates with the annual convention Easter weekend in Grapevine, TX. Students participate in events such as song leading, speech, Bible reading, puppets, art, second language and others. All of these events have the goal of developing them to be the leaders of the church in years to come.
Other activities – We also have retreats for our families in the fall and our teenagers in the Spring. We have weekly Bible studies for guys and girls, and we have evenings where we just get together and hang out while playing games. We also have a VBS every summer in which our teenagers participate in puppets, crafts and helping with the younger children.
